Why Mindset Is Important
Everything stems from your mindset. You will never achieve or experience what you don’t believe you deserve. When you read books or listen to interviews by the world’s most successful people, nearly every single one praises the value of a strong mindset.
But what exactly is a mindset, and how do you develop yours? Over the course of a decade of doing hypnosis consulting work with people, and helping them enhance their mindset, I’ve come to understand the required elements.
This work is simple, but not easy. In other words, though the process is straightforward, it can be a challenge to someone who has never explored this part of the psyche. But never fear, great things take time. And if you are willing to put in the work, over time you will make radical positive changes to your health, business, relationships, and overall quality of life.
Step 1 - Releasing Past Traumas and Unhelpful Beliefs
When you are making positive changes in your life, it’s important to start from a blank canvas. Otherwise your newfound powers will clash with your old ways and you will just be spinning your wheels. This step is vital to success in moving forward.
Throughout our early childhood, we take on the beliefs and attitudes of those closest to us. We haven’t yet developed our filter of belief, so we just believe everything! Couple this with a few traumatic experiences that scar our emotions, and we’ve just installed a faulty program into our brain’s computer. This program will run until we change it.
The process of change can take some time and effort, but it is incredibly powerful. Once you find and eliminate these unhelpful beliefs and remove your negative emotions to events in the past, you are free to move forward, light and open to powerful changes.
Step 2 - Develop Powerful Positive Beliefs
Beliefs are tools. You can believe anything you choose. So why not choose the beliefs that will get you where you want to go? Think about some beliefs you would like to have, and write them down. Your beliefs will shape your perspective, your idea of what is possible, and how you find meaning in the world.
For example, take the idea of luck. Some people believe they are unlucky, and that unlucky things consistently happen to them. Others believe that they are lucky, and that lucky things consistently happen to them. Who do you think is right? THEY BOTH ARE! Whatever you believe becomes your reality. Which do you think would be more fun and helpful?
Think about what beliefs you want to have and start flooding them into your brain. Develop mantras, affirmations, recordings, and whatever you can to train your subconscious mind to accept these beliefs about yourself.
Step 3 - The Power of Visualization
Your beliefs will help you get to where you want to go, but you first must decide where that is. What do you really want? What does abundance, success, and freedom look like for you? What are the qualities of an amazing relationship with your mate, kids, parents, friends, etc.? What impact are you having in your community? What legacy will you leave the world when you're gone?
Answering these questions will give you the content of your visualizations. Imagine all these things as if they are true, having already been accomplished, and how you feel living the life of your dreams. If you can dream and imagine it, you can make it happen.
Spend some time daily working with this vision. Constantly remind yourself of where you are going and why. I find five minutes of daily mediation toward these goals and dreams in the form of visualization is enough to keep me intensely focused on my path.
Step 4 - Take Action
Fortune favors the bold. You can’t just sit on your couch and visualize all of these things to come true. You have to get out into the world and take massive action. Each step you take in the direction of your dreams, each call you make, each email you send, each pushup you do, all have a positive impact on your mindset.
Your subconscious mind is supremely impressed by effort. It might resist change at first, but when it sees you putting in massive effort toward your dreams it will come to your aid. It will help you in any way possible, allowing you to see opportunities and ideas where you couldn’t before.
Keep Moving Forward
The cool thing about an unstoppable mindset is that it is continually growing and evolving. With this perspective, there is no such thing as failure. You gain wisdom, learning, and experience through obstacles and challenges. Constantly move forward, growing stronger and more powerful with each new belief, visualization, and action.
